We have been staying in town since May, and people that know us, are aware of the empty house in the country. We make regular trips to check on things and bring items to town. And everyone knows, locks just keep honest people honest.
On one of our trips, we noticed one of our flags, we had hanging on a wall, was gone. Also missing was one of our infared space heaters, worth close to $600. Only a couple of people know how to easily "jimmy" the lock on the backdoor. We have a good idea who took the stuff, a new flag, like the one missing, is now waving from a deck three doors down the road. Proving it will be impossible, since they are very friendly with the local law enforcement.
Next trip will be to put hasps and padlocks on both doors.

that's awful! I wouldnt be as calm as you are about it, but then again I grew up in a huge city where locks were just the beginning of prevention. (was funny when I lived in Japan my landlord would tell me to lock my door, gee obaasan, doesnt everyone????? guess people over there are a bit more honest).
hope what goes around comes around for your 'friendly neighbors' perkunas! (and yeah, time to set up some nice traps )

Geez. It is things like that that makes me lose faith in humanity. Sorry to hear that Perk. Hopefully nothing else grows legs.
From what I have heard, Japan is totally different. Especially since they don't allow guns. Makes it a totally different culture with crime.
Back to work tomorrow. Was definitely a nice 3 day weekend though.

We lived 18+ years at the old place. The only time we locked the place up, was when we were going to be gone over night or longer. We never had anything walk off during that time. Lawn mowers sat outside, covered up, close to the back of the house and are still sitting there.
While we were getting the China cabinet, the neighbor we suspect of taking the stuff, drove up to see if we had heard anything about the probate. He knows someone that wants to buy the place and build on it. Apparently, he gave this person a tour of the place, in the house, around the property, and even tried to open the camper, thinking it will be for sale. And for some reason, they think I wll be vertually giving the place away. Dunno where they came up with the $30k price. I told them I already have someone interested in it for $50k. (Let the bidding war begin. LOL)
He thought that because we were loading things in the back of our truck, we had settled the probate. I told him no, that we were here to get our "precious" items, because some stuff had been taken. He was "shocked" and told us that he had seen kids on the property, but never thought they were stealing things. By accusing others, in my mind, he convicted himself. I also told him, "I hope who ever took the heater, didn't plan on using it, cause it melted an outlet and wiring in the wall." After telling him that, his wife looked at him, with that "Oh Poop" look.
Nothing of real value is left to move. Still going to put extra locks on it just to prevent possible squatters.

Geez. I'd be checking Craigslist or Ebay for your space heater pretty soon then. Either that or it will magically reappear in your place.
He gave them a tour of your place? Because that isn't trespassing or anything... I would be pretty darn mad if someone did that at my place without my permission.

a tour???? er, exactly what kind of peeps you got down there? usually that kind of stuff is done by the owner or real estate person, NOT the neighbor....guess they do things different in the rural areas?
and yeah, I would be more than just mad if someone decided to show off my place without my express permission!

Even in a rural area I don't think that is standard operating procedure...

Yup rain the past two days. But it looks like it has passed for now.
Busy days. Yup. No prep for the past 3 days now... And no prep tomorrow. So I might get 1 prep period this week (my period off during work) if I get today's. Which isn't a given considering how much they keep asking me to cover other teachers who are gone during my prep...
More sleep would be swell...

yeah, nice a sunny today, too bad I have no places to go today, and I actually managed to get 4 hours of sleep in a roll nice for a change.

They are trying to "save" money by covering it in house. Since we only cover for an hour, we only get $8 vs getting a sub for the whole day at $90.
Bit cool out. But also sunny. Which is nice.

I'll take the extra money though. An extra $8 isn't much, but it is something.
Thank goodness it is the weekend. Last week was a looooong week.

I certainly hope thats AFTER taxes since minimum wage is more than that! (since the gov't will take 20+% of it for taxes/fees/dues..and whatever else they can think of to get it).
dang it was windy today, sunny but really really windy.

Ya that is after taxes. Supposed to be like 12 bucks an hour or something. So after taxes it's 8 something.
Was super windy here yesterday and sunny. Sunny again today but not quite as windy.

thats good to hear
though have you seen that walmart (and previously mcd's) workers now want to get $10-$15/hour MINIMUM wage? I just cant see those kinds of jobs getting paid more than teachers (and most office workers where they REQUIRE a college degree!) and of course, they just dont see it that minimum wage is a starting job, not what you are supposed to stay at for years. (heck ask any new office worker what their pay is: ~$10/hour)
just gets me that these people think they are entitled to ---.....ack gotta end my soap box before I go into topics not allowed (been watching too much news on tv recently)

Ya that is stupid. They would also be making more than some area police officers. Which is totally wrong. Just not right at all. McDonald's is supposed to be a way to either pay for college or make a few extra bucks in high school. Not a career.
Lots of entitled of people these days. Everyone deserves something. Just the way parents are raising kids these days sadly. I get to see it first hand.

yeah I hear ya...seems we are teaching our kids that THEY are the masters and wonderful etc. what ever happened to respecting your elders, doing what you are told, etc?
I hear it all the time from my working friends who think they should get paid just for showing up and work and that everyone wants to know what they are doing so they have to post on their facebook/blog whatever instead of actually working!
sigh...its the ME generation (we need to rename it).

They think that they only need to respect themselves and everyone should respect them. But they don't have to give it to get it. Ridiculous.

Brrrrr!! 57 at noon, 37 at 6 pm, headed to the teens overnight. Next couple of days will be more like January than November. Slight chance of flurries this evening. Back to lower 50's by weekend.
The lawyer says 2 more months on the probate case. I guess that is actually a good thing. $400 vs $1200 in taxes come December.
I don't want to get started on the "ME" generation. I can look at our kids, and our nieces and nephews, to see where their priorities are. I know I took a four or five year "ME" time after I received my discharge from the USAF, but settled down pretty quickly.
How's the plans going for Thanksgiving? Looks like a normal one for us. My sister's house then the wife's mom. I hope to have it here next year. Time will tell.
